You Never Know Unless You Ask

Buddy had a tooth pulled yesterday, and like any other young child he put the tooth under his pillow expecting the tooth fairy to pay him a visit. When the tooth fairy arrived she found something unexpected with the tooth.

SOL in Buddy speak: “Sooo Lost”

Only From a Boy

So not too long ago there was a terrible smell in our house. And it steadily worsened to the point of almost being sickening. During this progression I repeatedly asked Buddy if he had spilled something and just didn’t tell me about it (since this has happened in the past). He adamantly denied any wrong doing.

Then one day I couldn’t take it anymore and started firing questions at him. The last two hit home:

Did you bring something dead in the house? – Noooo (nervous tone with head down).

Ok, did you bring something that was once living in the house? – Yeeesss (still extremely nervous).

Buddy lost a tooth last night (not his first), and he put it under his pillow thinking the tooth fairy would pay him a visit. Unfortunately the tooth fairy wasn’t feeling well last night and totally forgot about it. He woke up this morning and came in to talk to me with a really sad face asking my why the tooth fairy didn’t leave him anything.

All I could do was smile and say maybe. I think the tooth fairy’s payment just went up.

So the morning of Christmas Eve, before we left, Buddy left a note for Santa under the Christmas tree.

“Dear Santa, Mom, Dad and I will be at Grandma and Grandpa’s house for Christmas.”

Even after several reassurances that Santa would indeed find us, Buddy still wasn’t convinced.

Your Smile

Our conversation tonight:

Mom, I love your smile.

Thank you Buddy.

It lets me know you love me, that’s why I like your smile.

There’s nothing like a child’s view to put life into perspective. And a reminder to myself to be sure and smile daily.
