First Day of Kindergarten
The ride to school is full of excitement sprinkled with nervousness and maybe a little fear of the unknown. The smile isn’t as wide and glowing as usual, but Buddy is trying his hardest not to let mom know anything is wrong.
Once at school, we say our goodbyes. Not a tear falls, thankfully. “I love you”s and hugs are expressed repeatedly until it is time for mom to leave for work.
Mom’s work day is an anxious mess. Systematically going through all the routes his day could take. Is he sad, happy, scared, frustrated, bored? 4:30 can’t come quick enough.
Worries slip away the moment Buddy sees me. His smile is almost wider than his face. He can’t wait to tell me all about his first day of school. He rambles on about anything and everything on the way to the car. Once we get in he says: “School is great Mom. They let you play outside two times a day. We play games and they read us books when we go back inside. Sometimes they make you learn stuff, but not that much. It is so much fun.”
