I’m With Ronald

Last Thursday, the one and only Ronald McDonald visited Buddy’s school and did a program for the kids. The kids really loved the show and Ronald was nice enough to give all the kids a high-five as they left the gym. All except for Buddy.

When it came time for Buddy to leave Ronald threw his arms out wide and called Buddy by name and then gave him a hug. All of the kids were awe struck. They just couldn’t believe Buddy knew Ronald.

So it came time for me to pick him up and Buddy was all aglow with the excitement of knowing a real celebrity (at least a celebrity to kids). He kept telling me how the kids continued to ask him how he knew Ronald. He finally remembered meeting Ronald a few times before. But he was still impressed that someone of that caliber remembered him by name. He was on cloud nine.

The next morning, as I dropped Buddy off at school, one of his classmates was walking in beside us. He said, “Buddy is so cool, Ronald McDonald even knows his name.” Of course Buddy was grinning from ear to ear. He really thought he was something.

Next thing you know Buddy asks, “Mom let’s take all my friends to McDonaldland to see Ronald. He won’t mind, he knows me.”

The parent in me wanted to remind him that it is impolite to invite yourself and others to someone’s house. But I just had to smile and say we’ll see. I couldn’t bear to ruin his “I’m with the Band” type moment.

  1. Priceless. This fame will follow him for the next few years! The girls will be so impressed.

  2. What a wonderful story. Way to go Buddy Aunt Ellen

    • I’m glad you liked it. Come back often (or just subscribe to the blog) to keep up with what he is doing. It’s so hard to keep up with everyone with so much distance between us.

  3. LisaF sent me your link–fun blog.

Glad to hear that Ronald still has rock star qualities. Our youngest thinks Mr. McDonald is the coolest after watching his healthy choice videos and seeing some hip dancing.

I hope Buddy relishes in the connections.

    • Thank you for visiting. At least they are paying attention to a “celebrity” who has a wholesome message. Let’s hope they continue to look up to people like that in the future.

  4. Ahhh…It’s good to have friends in high places. 😉
