I Want Those

Buddy, his dad and I were practicing martial arts the other day and Buddy finished a little before we did. He went over to the corner and sat on our weight machine. All of a sudden he says:

“Dad, show me your muscles.”

Dad obliged.

“Yeah, I want those.” He puts his own arms up to show his muscles in comparison and then proceeds to “pump iron.”

Lord help us if he really goes after it.

On our way to the sitter’s house this morning Buddy lost his first tooth.

He had it in his hand looking at it for a while, grinning ear to ear the entire time. And then he said:

“It’s really clean Mom. That’s good ’cause the tooth fairy likes clean teeth. Maybe she’ll bring me a Ben 10 toothbrush so I can keep the new one clean too.”

Leave it to my kid to ask for a toothbrush instead of money. No complaints with that.

I received a call from Buddy’s school not too long ago that went something like this:

“You need to come to the school now.”

Many thoughts went through my head from Buddy being hurt to him being in trouble as I asked: “Why?”

“You will have to try to get this thing out or take him to a doctor so they can.”

See You Later

Buddy loves to go to Grandma’s house. Sometimes I think he would live there if we would let him. His Grandma lives three miles away from us down gravel roads. And like most gravel roads, these aren’t real busy roads just the locals going to and from home.

Last Saturday Buddy was hanging out with his Dad and Uncle (a normal Saturday afternoon around our house.) He kept asking them if he could go to Grandma’s and the answer continually was “No.” Until finally, Buddy got to them enough and he was told:

“Well you’re not taking the Rhino over there, so if you want to go you’ll just have to walk.”

Tournament Time Begins

This last Saturday Buddy and I competed in our first martial arts tournament of the year. He took first in forms and second in sparring. I didn’t fair quite as well, second and fourth. (Although I have something to work toward now.)

Buddy did a really good job. I can only imagine what he will be capable of in his teen years.

I can’t help but say “Awwwww” when I watch these videos.

They’re Coming!!!!

There is never a dull moment in our house when Buddy is around. A week ago Monday Buddy was home with his dad cleaning house. They came across an old cell phone and Buddy asked if he could keep it. His dad checked the phone, the sim card had been removed but the battery still worked. There was no way the phone could complete a normal call so his dad saw no harm in letting him keep it. He proceeded to play with the phone for the rest of the day. No harm there right? Wrong.

Santa’s Workshop

•November 27, 2010 • 1 Comment

I asked Buddy to write his letter to Santa the other day and was pleasantly surprised with the result. Last year’s list was extremely long, typical for a young child. This year’s only had five items: a remote controlled fire truck, Starscream (transformer), Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, Dick and Jane books and a toy roller coaster. I looked at the list and told Buddy that Santa may not be able to give him everything on it. His response:

“That’s ok Mom. Santa and his elves can make a lot of things, but if they don’t have the right tools they can’t make everything. So I guess he’ll just make what he can. But it doesn’t hurt to ask.”
